The Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (MSRB) announced today that its Academic Historical Transaction Data product, comprised of post-trade municipal securities transaction data collected through the Real-Time Transaction Reporting System (RTRS), will be effective February 27, 2017. As of that date, the RTRS Academic Data Product will be available to academic institutions for a fee and will improve their ability to perform research by enabling them to distinguish transactions executed by different dealers through the use of anonymized identifiers. The MSRB currently makes municipal securities trade data available to academics through a partnership with Wharton Research Data Services. RTRS data is made available to the public at no charge on the Electronic Municipal Market Access (EMMA®) website.
