Washington County, Arkansas, in which a land-use issue arose in connection with an application to operate a “red-dirt mine.” As the name more than implies, the material to be mined is, uh, dirt. Red dirt. (Bet you didn’t see that coming.) This is all new to us, but immediately enters the Pantheon of Achievable Tasks. (See, also, gravel mine.) Presumably, the exploratory drilling process requires two 4 y.0. boys and a rusty garden trowel.
